Portion Control Made Easy!

Recently Diet Blog were discussing The Diet Plate: Better Than Drugs?  The Diet Plate are a UK based company who have created a rather unique way of controlling portion sizes.

Plates are divided into sections according to the five food groups, the idea being that if you adhere to the set boundaries, you will control your food portions, and ultimately lose weight.

A study has been carried out by Pedersen et al (2007), looking at 130 Type II diabetics. In the intervention group no lifestyle changing advice was given, but they were asked to use The Diet Plate at each meal. In the control group they received dietary advice only.

After 6 months, those in the intervention group lost significantly more weight than those in the control group, and were also able to decrease their diabetic medication.

This study proves how successful portion control can be in helping us lose weight, and despite the fact that no dietary advice was given in the intervention group, they successfully lost weight of their own accord. It seems like such a simple solution!

The plate comes in a male, female and children’s version for £17.02 (excluding VAT & shipping), and you can also buy the breakfast bowl for £14.46 (excluding VAT & shipping), to complete the set.

I suppose they are a bit pricey, however if you think of it as a long term solution, maybe it works out reasonable? What do you think?

The plate has recently been launched in the USA.
