Create your own Weight loss Accountability!

Have you ever thought how good it would be to have access to the advice of a dietitian from the comfort of your own home, or office? Well, you can! Telephone consultations are an innovative way of helping you stay on track, without the hassle of having to drive to the clinic, or take time away from work, or your kids!

A study by Donnelley et al (2007), entitled “Comparison of a phone vs clinic approach to achieve 10% weight loss” found that, “The phone approach may be a viable option, to the traditional weight management clinic, for both service providers and participants.”

The study was relatively small, with only 24 men and 72 women, however the result are interesting. They found that the phone and clinic groups (at 12 and 26 weeks) showed 10% weight loss from the baseline. The results are significant when compared with the control group.

The total weight loss of the participants in the traditional clinic setting was greater than that of the phone group, however the phone approach may be a viable option for dieters to consider, particularly if time constraints are an issue.

  1. Having other people to be accountable to is so important I’ve found. When you try to do it all on your own it’s so much more difficult.

Have you found certain people to be better at making you accountable, i.e. family members, friends, online support?
