Small Changes, Big Benefits!

I received an email from Rachel on behalf of the America on the Move Foundation, to let me know about their great campaign, taking place throughout the month of September. AOMF are a non-profit organisation, encouraging everyone to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

The goal of AOMF is to highlight that small changes can add up to a healthier lifestyle and weight for life. The program tries to engage people of all ages, and emphasises the need for achieving energy balance - the balance between the amount of calories eaten, and the amount of calories burned. Research shows that achieving energy balance is an effective approach to healthy weight management.

So, how can you achieve energy balance?

AOMF recommend:

  • Adding an extra 2000 steps (or activity equivalent) to your day.
  • Choosing one smart way to eat 100 fewer calories each day.

This is extremely manageable, and would be a brilliant first step, if you’ve been thinking about being more active, or losing weight, but were unsure of where to begin. Obviously, the more effort we put in, the greater rewards we’ll experience, ultimately resulting in a better quality of life long-term.

Why not register with them, and start taking the first small steps towards better health? Throughout the month of September, you can visit their site to sign up to participate. Each day, one person will win an iPod shuffle, and at the end of the month there’ll be the chance to win a $500 shopping spree at DICK’s Sporting Goods.
