Quick Healthy Eating Tip
Do you struggle to reach the government recommendations for fruit or vegetables each day? I know I do from time to time! But, an extremely simple tip could help us reach our goals.
Instead of choosing biscuits, or a bar of chocolate while having your afternoon tea break, or relaxing in the evening, set yourself a goal:
“I must eat a portion of fruit or raw veggies before I can have any other snack, such as biscuits, cake, chocolate, crisps etc.”
Make sure that you always have a good supply of fruits and vegetables in your home. If you have time, you may even want to prepare your healthy snacks while cooking evening meals. This will help to prevent lapses into old habits, as unfortunately the more unhealthy option, with virtually no preparation, can appear very appealing!
This simple task will ensure that you’re eating more fruit and vegetables, and saving calories to boot. Hopefully you’ll find that you’re less likely to reach for another snack, or at least if you do, you won’t eat as much as you previously would have.

Good tip Melanie. I use this with clients and find it often helps them enormously. I like this idea, because it’s a positive approach to diet change. It’s about concentrating on the foods you can eat, rather than banning foods - which is rarely helpful.
Most people find, by the time they’ve eaten the piece of fruit or vegetable snack, they don’t need the chocolate.
Or, as you say, at the very least they eat less of it.

Hi Kathryn - yes I like this type of approach too, so much of the popular ‘diets’ today are focused on removing important foods, or groups of food, which is very restrictive, and impossible to stick with!
Whatever will they come up with next??

I’ve had a few people talking to me about the Skinny Bitch book. I haven’t seen it locally, but a few bloggers and readers have mentioned it. Do you have any experience?

I don’t have any experience with it personally, however from what I’ve read previously I don’t like it! They use a kind of ’sergeant major’ style talk, which I don’t find useful, maybe it depends on your personality, but it’s definitely not my style!
Basically it encourages a vegan diet - no dairy foods, eggs, meat or fish. The first time I heard about the book was when Victoria Beckham was pictured carrying it around, and it’s become very popular since!
