Want to Learn How to Cook?
Recently I made a wonderful discovery on the web - while Stumbling through, I came across Start Cooking.com by Kathy Maister.
Kathy’s site teaches the basics of cooking with short videos and step-by-step photo tutorials. It’s an absolutely wonderful resource, with heaps of “how to” articles, and recipe suggestions.
If you’re new to cooking, or just looking for some creative cooking tips, this site is for you. I think there’s something for everyone!
Here are Kathy’s top 10 start cooking tips:
- Have fun.
- Think small - master one skill at a time.
- Keep your knives sharp.
- Think ahead - it’s hard to prepare a meal with no food in the house.
- Add a touch of romance - anything looks better by candlelight.
- Keep equipment simple. “Gimmicky” utensils and equipment take up storage space and become dust collectors.
- Buy one really good reference cookbook (I like “Joy of Cooking”).
- Leave some things to the experts (I have never been able to cook a steak as well as they do at our local steak house!).
- Learn to cook one thing really well. Everyone needs a signature dish, even if it is just scrambled eggs.
- Learn all the proper techniques and terminology, and then break all the rules!
Please do check out Kathy’s site, it’s well worth it - I hope you enjoy!
Best wishes!
