Are you Harbouring Limiting Beliefs?

Is there something holding you back from achieving your goals? Maybe it’s limiting beliefs about yourself, the “I can’t do it,” type of thinking. Challenge those inner thoughts right now!

When you find yourself saying “I can’t” immediately replace it with a positive statement. Instead, try saying “How can I do this?” or “How is this possible?” This way you become more open to new possibilities and solutions.

Make it your new goal to challenge those negative thoughts each time they appear!

William Allen White made a very poignant statement when he said,

“I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.”

EXCELLENT advice. I find myself doing it every time I increase my goals at the gym on on the track. My body complains, but I just keep pushing!

  2. Oh! I tell this to my kids all the time! Don’t waste time saying “I can’t do it”. Use your time to figure out HOW to do it. But I am not sure if it is really sinking in…

Just yesterday my wife and I were having lunch together and were discussing an idea for a new retail store in our area. At one point my wife said it all sounds great but that we would never do it.

I said to her that we had to stop the negative attitude, as we could do it. The reason most people don’t achieve the success they desire is because they restrict themselves.

Now I have no idea if this retail store will pan out but we are doing our market research and have started the education process to see if it would be viable. If we don’t do it, it won’t be because we limited ourselves.

    Great post Melanie!

  4. Important advice Mel. Be careful what you feed your mind, as well as your body. I’ve really come to appreciate just how powerful words are in the last year or two. They can trigger a whole chain reaction of conditioned behaviour — for better of worse! Mike talks about one of the simplest utterances imaginable in Habit Guide, that when used at the right time has an amazing impact — things just start shifting in your mind. It’s amazing the way our brains work. What we say to ourselves every day has a huge impact on our happiness, no question. Love that quote too :-) ~ James

    Thanks everyone for your feedback.

This is something I’m really starting to see as one of the ‘keys’ to success, that is, the power of our mind, as James said, it’s so so important. Getting rid of those negative beliefs, is challenging though!!

I love the idea of saying “How can I do this?” rather than “I can’t do it!”

Derek - that is wonderful news, and by just challenging negative thoughts in that one area it can extend into other areas, that you may have originally thought impossible. Hope it does “pan out!”
