5 Super Cool Fruity Desserts Your Kids Will Love

We all know what a challenge it can be getting kids to eat healthy foods, and despite the array of delicious fruits on offer during the summer months, very often they simply won’t touch them!

If you’re holding a kids party it can be very tempting to serve a host of highly processed, sugary foods, just to keep the peace. But, what if you could make the presentation of your desserts so appealing that your kids would just have to try them?

Here are 5 super cool dessert ideas – hopefully they won’t even realise they’re healthy!

#1 Frozen oranges - cut the top off your oranges, scoop out the inside, blend, put back into the orange, and freeze.

#2 Fruity yoghurt layers – dice kiwi and strawberries, then layer into tall plastic glasses with your favourite berry yoghurt, and a few chocolate chips.

#3 Mixed berry icepops – blend the berries with natural yoghurt, then pour into plastic icepops, and put back into the freezer.

#4 Frozen bananas – peal bananas, puree and place in the freezer in small coloured cups.

#5 Fruity cubes – pour 100% whole fruit juice into icecube trays, place a segment of fruit in each, for example orange, grape, or melon.

You could also try topping your desserts with colourful parasoles, or small toys to increase their kid-appeal.

What are your tips for getting kids to eat healthy foods? We’d love to hear your ideas!

There aren’t any kids in my house, but I still think these ideas all sound really good.

I really like the idea of a popsicle that is mostly whole fruit. Good one.

I’d even like to try some of these for myself. Another thing that is really tasty, quite the opposite of frozen bananas, is a baked banana. Baking an unpeeled banana at 350 degrees for 15 minutes on a cookie sheet is delicious because the natural sugars caramelize. Just peel part of it back, and eat with a spoon.

Hey Jordanne,

Yes, I know what you mean! ;-) I will try your baked banana idea.

I suppose that would be particularly good if you had a few bananas that got too ripe, I’m always leaving them until they’re too brown..shame on me! Now I have a good solution, thanks!!
