Hey Cathy,
I'm totally stoked that the 31 days challenge as got you thinking! As I've said before it's all about figuring out what works for you personally, and it sounds like right now walking it a great option for you, and so much cheaper than gym membership!!

Keep up the good work Cathy! :-)

checking out your challenges for this month and joining Sparkpeople has made me think a lot about where I am 'going' and where I have 'gone'

i have come almost a full circle since our messages about gyms and doing your own thing....i realised just this last week when I do a heckva lotta walking and no gym dates that I don't really need the Gym. So to that end when my membership expires in late March , that's that!

The reason I didn't go to the Gym last week was because I had to do a lot of 'running around' for Studylink and my Limited Time application. Each day was somewhere different, sometimes right in at Uni (Gym there) but there wasn't any time.....or I didn't know how long anything would take. Plus the one day I was going to go, a phone call at home whilst holding my bag/books etc put paid to the entire day!!!

Twice in the week, I had it 'up to here' with Studylink stuff and I took off on a long walk around the City, blowing out the steam! I noticed each time that in the evening I was bushed and my right leg was not so swollen, so I realised that I had obviously exercised enough for that day.

Now I've decided, that bit by bit, I will walk to the next bus stop and then the next and try and get in a bit of exercise on the way too: and on the way back: that will be week days that I am going anywhere......w/ends I will factor in a long walk - back to my old days of doing that on the w/ends. I had worked out a number routes from here some flat, others hilly and I usually managed 10k round trips.

Anyway thanks for making the 31days a good 'workout' for my mind :-)

Hey Barbara,
It's amazing how helping others, or being around people how are less fortunate than us in some way, really challenges your thinking, and you find yourself asking, "What do I have to complain about?" It's a reality check!

Hi Blake,
That's very true, there's nothing like a 'blue day' to kill your productivity! Sometimes I find just going out for a walk helps when I feel like that, and I can get back into my work afterwards no problem.

Hey Lara,
Thank you :-)

Hey Ashley,
What a wonderful resolution, very inspiring! I think that's such a great way to keep a positive focus, and even if things happen that weren't in your plan for a 'happy only year' you'll be able to look at it in a better frame of mind, and even learn something good from it!

Hi Melanie - Thanks for your comment on my blog! I love this post. I decided on Jan. 1st that 2009 was going to be a "happy only (or as much as possible) year" for me. So anytime I'm feeling down, I think about that and focus on the good stuff in life!

Great ideas here. These are all great ways to stay happy. When we are happier we have more confidence in ourselves and our ability to get things done. Thanks!

I agree happiness is a choice we make. I especially like your idea of being kind to others. Often their feedback will feed our happiness "meter". Smiling is good, too. :)
