“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”
~Abraham Lincoln
Do you find each day comes and goes, and it seems like most days are similar to the one before?
Before you know it a whole week has passed, and you really haven’t done anything to move closer to your goals.
It’s been said that time waits for no one! How sad it would be to reach the later years in life, only to realise we really hadn’t achieved much of what we wanted in life.
What things are important to you in life? And how do you spend most of your days and weeks? Perhaps some of the following are important to you:
- Being fit and healthy
- Being a happier person
- Being a better Christian
- Being less stressed
- Having a better job
- Being more kind and loving
- Taking time out with your family
- Volunteering and charity work
So, how can you make sure you’re getting the most out of life starting from today?
#1 Be pro active
What do you really want out of life?
Perhaps you want to be healthy and strong into your older years. Maybe you want to be successful in business? Or, perhaps you want to be a great parent to your children.
But, what are you doing to make these things come true on a daily basis?
Let’s face it, these things don’t just happen, you need to work at them.
There are many things in life that take our time and energy. But, are they really worthwhile causes? Do they contribute towards your family life, or make you a better person?
These are searching questions, but worthy of a response, don’t you think?
#2 Set your goals
If you are to achieve your goals in life, one of the best things you can do is write down what you want to achieve. This could be as simple as noting down a few bullet points, or it can be something more detailed.
Regardless, the act of writing down what you want will help you move closer to achieving it.
You should then post your goals somewhere visible, so that you are reminded of them often; this will help to keep them in the forefront of your mind.
As you go through your day, what activities can you do to bring you closer to achieving your purpose?
At the end of each day it’s also good to take a few moments to evaluate how you did, and work out if you could have done anything differently. This will help you to keep going forward day by day.
Above all, don’t get upset at yourself if you feel you haven’t done very well that day – the purpose of the exercise is to help you move forward, it’s not about criticising yourself.
#3 Be accountable to you
If you want to improve your life, it’s true to say that you are the only one that can make it happen, isn’t that right?
So, if you don’t try to change things, no one else will!
Don’t ever get into the bad habit of blaming others for your misfortunes in life, that simply won’t help. Instead, concentrate on what you are trying to achieve, and the things or people that will help you to get there.
Remember, life is incredibly short – are you living your life the way you know you should be?
“Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of.”
~Charles Richards

So glad I stumbled across this article! It’s crazy how something as simple as living your life the best you can, is something we so often neglect to do.
As of yesterday I began my own personal committment to fix my life; for one that is healthier and happier by taking more time and effort to look after my body.
I’m documenting my efforts in a series of write-ups called ‘Fix Before 30′. And I’m actually also putting the call out to anyone willing to join my “Progress Picture Diary” challenge. You can read all about it here:

I’d love to gather a few health kick buddies!
