During the sermon at church on Sunday, our visiting preacher from America, began telling us about his struggles with weight loss, and how he has recently lost 40 pounds.
I can remember him visiting Northern Ireland before, and I have to say he certainly looks a lot healthier now — indeed his weight loss suits him very well.
He commented on how his weight has always been something he battled with, having tried and failed with many diets in the past (sound familiar, eh?)
So, what finally gave him the much needed kick to the posterior???
A diagnosed of type 2 diabetes, no less.
This got me thinking, how laid back many of us are about taking care of ourselves!
You hear it over and over again, people who have changed their lifestyle dramatically, bacause of a diagnosis like this.
But, why can’t we take these steps before it gets to such a serious point?
What words of doom will you need to hear before you take action, and begin looking after yourself?
Is 2010 the year when you will finally achieve your health goals?
It’s certainly worth giving some serious thought…
There’s no reason why you can’t change your lifestyle for the better, if you just put your mind to it.
Go for it!!! Your body deserves to be treated better!

To transform the lifestyles of a diet-obsessed world by teaching people how to eat healthy and make healthy eating a habit for life.

It seems that people won’t change unless it’s more painful to continue their old ways.
In other words, we take the least painful path.

You are so right! We have “healthcare”, not “sickcare”. Why do we have to wait for a problem to happen?

Steve and Bobbie,
I noticed this was also a problem for many women when pregnant, it seems some won’t even sacrifice for the health of their baby, and at least try to be a little healthier.
This is very true and we are all a little guilty of taking the easy path when we don’t have any obvious health problems! I suppose the new year is as a good a time as ever to try and look after ourselves improve our lifestyles

Hey Lila,
Thanks for your comment. Yes, new year, fresh start, etc–I need to get back to exercising again, that’s my goal
Yes, 2010 here we come!!!!! I’m back at curves again. I’ve almost emptied the cupboards of rubbish and asked my husband to buy his own coffee cake and biscuits. So here’s to it. There is a 30 day challenge and I would hope to complete it.
I also have to add that my dear son in his own kind way encouaged me!
:):)
Yippee… well done!!!
I hope the 30 day challenge goes well. What does it involve?
lol, he’s blunt and to the point, but it’s always for our own good!!
2010 has to be THE year that I finally lose the weight! I’m really motivate now as you can see after years of horrible yo-yo dieting. I hope this motivation lasts, though. Wish me luck!

Hey Ana,
That’s great news! Let us know how you get on. What tactics do you have for success?
Hey Melanie,

I don’t know if you would call it a tactic as much as a source of motivation but I got accepted into the Dietetics at university. I figured that if I’m going to be telling people to be healthy, maybe I should start being healthy myself. Let’s see if this motivation lasts long enough for me to lose all the weight I need to lose

2010 is the year I get my banged-up knees into fightin’ shape. At least I hope. My goal is to consistently go to the gym between knee treatments so that I can get stronger and ditch the pain for good!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving a great suggestion for breakfast!

Hi Tracey,
Thanks for leaving a comment.
Wishing you all the best for 2010, hope you get rid of the pain for good!
I think hindsight is a very good thing if we all new what was going to happen to us later in life we would all make the appropriate changes to avoid that happening, I think it is important that at the start of each year taking a look at yourself, if you have put on a stone in the last year then may be your weight may have been a problem and something you should watch for the next year. Great post that really brings it home, I hope your preacher has it under control.
Hi Sarah,
Yes, that’s a great point. I think people would do well if they were to take stock of where they’re at more regularly, so that the problem gets tackled before it gets out of hand. Thanks for sharing!
